Family: Atyidae
Origins: Asia: Japan
Scientific Name: Caridina japonica
Common Name: Japonica Shrimp
Size: 2"
Preferred pH range: 6.0 – 7.2
Temperature Range: 68-76 F
Temperment: Community / Peaceful
Comments: They are very sensitive to ammonia/ammonium and heavy metal concentrations, as are most freshwater shrimp. The real attraction of these shrimp is their success in algae consumption, especially soft algaes. They are also rumored to eat red algaes in the absence of other foods. However, like most captive inverts they will choose fish food over algae any day and often will turn on soft leafed plants (especially soft mosses, i.e. java moss and riccia) in the absence of softer algae types or fish foods.
Family: Atyidae
Origins:
Scientific Name: Palaeomonetes
Common Name: Ghost Shrimp
Size: 1.5"
Preferred pH range: 6.0 – 7.2
Temperature Range: 68-76 F
Temperment: Community / Peaceful
Comments: They are very sensitive to ammonia/ammonium and heavy metal concentrations, as are most freshwater shrimp. They are excellent scavengers and fair consumers of soft algaes, although they prefer fish (flake especially) food.

Family: Cambaridae
Origins: The greatest diversity of crayfish species is found in south-eastern North America, with over 330 species in nine genera, all in the family Cambaridae
Scientific Name: Orconectes limosus
Common Name: Cray Fish
Size: 3-4"
Preferred pH range: 6.0 – 7.2
Temperature Range: 65-76 F
Temperment: Community / Peaceful / May eat small fish
Comments: They prefer foods like shrimp pellets or various vegetables but will also eat tropical fish food, algae wafers, and even small fish that can be captured by their claws, such as goldfish or minnows. Their disposition towards eating almost anything will also cause them to consume most aquarium plants in a fish tank; however, crayfish are fairly shy and may attempt to hide under leaves or rocks. Crayfish are great escape artists and will try to climb out of the tank, so any holes in the hood should be covered.
